HotCake Clone (UK-Electronic)

alex | 07 July, 2012 18:26

The HotCake distortion pedal has been invented by Emlyn Crowther in 1976 and since then has been used by many well-known guitarists like, for example, Noel Gallagher of Oasis. I decided to build this pedal as my third project after watching a few reviews on Youtube and considering it to be the distortion I've been looking for.

I decided for the kit sold by UK-Electronic, as I already gained positive experience by two previous projects. Again the build instructions have been very well and the assembling has been easy.

Designing the look, my clone became the "Hot Brownie".

Hi Alex. just wondering about your Hot Cake clone. I too have built one of these last week, but sadly mine will not work. Output volume is extremely low, with cracks and pops if you play hard. Drive pot has no effect. I've built six other kits, all worked just fine. This is the only failure. Did you connect pins 1 and 2 of the drive pot together? Hoping you can enlighten me! Best, Trent.

I didn't connect pin 1 & 2 of the drive poti. The build instructions say pin 1 is not connected.
Did you build it from a kit or on perfboard? Which schematic did you use?
